As one of the extremely important points of trade and traffic in the former Montenegro, Rijeka Crnojevića developed postal cooperation with the rest of the country very early.
After visiting Paris in 1903, Manager of the Post and Telegraph of Montenegro. ordered a passenger and mail car for his company that could accommodate nine people and travel at speeds of up to 20 kilometers per hour. The journey from Rijeka to Cetinje took an hour, and from Rijeka to Podgorica an hour and 45 minutes.
A year before the mentioned car, the management of the Post and Telegraph of Montenegro introduced the transport of mail and passengers on Skadar Lake by the steamer Lastavica. The steamer operated every day and connected Rijeka Crnojevića with Virpazar and Plavnica.
